Is using RAM slots 2 and 4 the same as 1 and 3?? | [H]ard|Forum As in the thread title, if i was too install 2 x 2gb sticks in the 2 and 4 slots on my motherboard would the results be the same as if i used 1 and 3. Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DQ6. Memory slots 1 and 3 are Yellow and 2 and 4 are red. It does however list slots 2+4 as DDR4_1 and DDR4_2, while slots 1+3 are listed as DDR4_3 and DDR4_4. With that numbering system it seems that they have prioritized slots 2+4. Using slots 1 and 3 vs 0 and 2 won't cause any issues, it's fairly common for anyone using larger CPU coolers to be unable to use the closest slot to the CPU anyway. I know every single X58 system with 6 RAM slots I've ever built has used slots 1, 3 and 5 rather than 0, 2 and 4 just out of habit.

With this being said, We would suggest occupying slots 1 and 3 for your RAM. Just remember that slot 1 has to be occupied, then technically any other slot (2,3 or 4) can be occupied after that requirement is met.
